Inauguration of the CGST Toronto Office
Thanks be to our Lord! The CGST Toronto was officially inaugurated on June 21, 2025, with an opening worship service held on the same day. Guests gathered in a spirit of gratitude, offering prayers that this ministry would serve as a blessing to overseas Chinese churches.
On this momentous occasion, CGST President Rev. Dr. Bernard Wong shared his heartfelt reflections, describing CGST Toronto as a gift from God in celebration of CGST’s 50th anniversary. He also shared the broader vision for the new office. The unveiling ceremony was officiated by President Wong, Rev. Jonathan Chan, Chairperson of the CGST Toronto Board, and Rev. Dr. Kin Yip Louie, Chief Executive of CGST Toronto.
Dr Louie, who has assumed leadership for the new office, shared his vision for the ministry and his personal testimony. One of the major initiatives of CGST Toronto is the establishment of the Centre for Global Chinese Church Research (CGCCR). Dr Wing Wong, Director of the research centre, introduced the centre’s mission to support overseas Chinese churches as they navigate the complexities of an ever-evolving socio-cultural landscape in the 21st century.
Beyond research, CGST Toronto is committed to serving the needs of overseas Christians and pastors. Ms. Maria Chuen, Director of Administration, outlined plans for the Lay Theological Education (LTE) program and announced the launch of a pastoral support initiative, both aimed at equipping and encouraging overseas church leaders and lay Christians.
The new office is located in Richmond Hill, Ontario, and the opening worship service was attended by over 40 guests. The celebrations continued in the evening of June 22, with the CGST 50th Anniversary and CGST Toronto Opening Thanksgiving Dinner. This joyful event brought together over 170 guests, including pastors and alumni from across the Greater Toronto Area. Together, they witnessed the amazing journey of CGST Toronto.
To commemorate the office’s opening, CGST Toronto hosted a series of events on June 20 and June 23, including revival lectures, pastoral seminars, and a public lecture. CGST President Emeritus Rev Dr Stephen Lee delivered the revival lecture, which drew nearly 700 attendees.
We give thanks to God for the successful inauguration of CGST Toronto and the meaningful events that marked this milestone. With hearts full of gratitude, we pray that the Lord will continue to guide CGST Toronto as it provides relevant theological education and resources, bringing blessings to the global Chinese Church.
