Rev Dr Bernard Wong accepted Christ during his secondary school years in Hong Kong and was baptized at the Boston Chinese Evangelical Church while attending university in the USA. Thereafter he worked as an engineer in Canada and then as an environmental consultant in Hong Kong. In 2002, he was called into full-time ministry. When he graduated from China Graduate School of Theology with a Master of Divinity in 2005, he began ministering at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Yau Tong Church, where he received a further calling into the ministry of theological education. Then in 2011, he went to USA to pursue a doctoral degree in Christian ethics. Upon graduation in 2015, he joined the faculty of CGST. He was ordained by the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church Union Hong Kong in 2021.

While being a pastor, Rev Dr Wong observes that the contemporary culture is exerting profound influences on how people relate to one another. He believes that Christian theology holds the key to congenial interpersonal relationships. He is interested in how the thought patterns of late-modernity impact our moral decisions and actions. For him, a moral act is not the outflow of an ad hoc decision made in response to an isolated event; it is influenced by a person’s life settings, her ingrained practices and habits, and her worldview and value system. Therefore, Christian ethics is not merely cognitive exercises or a set of fixed rules. It is the transformation of Christians into participation with God’s narrative and God’s redemption plan. He believes that theology serves to help Christians know God through Scripture. But to know the living God is to encounter His Word and commands. Theology, therefore, is inseparable from ethics. A student of theology must also be a faithful follower of Christ.
