Dr Wong Wing Sze

BA (Psychology), York University
PhD (Psychology), City University of Hong Kong
MTS, Tyndale University
DPT (Candidate), McMaster Divinity College

When Dr. Wong sensed God’s call to be equipped for ministry and service, she enrolled herself in Master of Theological Studies (MTS) degree at Tyndale University. At that time, she believed this call would lead her down a completely new path, leaving the past entirely behind. However, as is often the case, God had unexpected plans. Towards the end of her MTS program, Dr. Wong received an offer from Wycliffe College at the University of Toronto to study the phenomena of church decline in Canada using empirical methods. This surprising turn rekindled her engagement with empirical research — an area she once believed had no place in theology and gave up already. At CGST Toronto, she undertakes research that examines the challenges facing Chinese churches in the 21st century. Her objective is to identify culturally sensitive and context-relevant practices that will support the global Chinese Church to fulfil the Great Commission and to live out the gospel faithfully in the changing sociocultural environment.

Prior to relocating to Canada, Dr. Wong was a tenured professor and head of the Department of Psychology at the Education University of Hong Kong. She concurrently served as the Associate Dean (International Engagement) of the Faculty of Education and Human Development. During her tenure, she led a multidisciplinary research program on chronic musculoskeletal pain that combined studies of fundamental epidemiological and assessment issues with applied, theory-driven research in behavioral medicine using different research methods. Her work has been published in leading journals in the fields of health sciences and psychology. In 2011, she was elected a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science in recognition of her research contributions.
